Speed Limits
The speed limit is the absolute maximum - it does not mean it is always safe to drive at that speed. A driver must consider road, weather and traffic conditions and drive accordingly.
Street lights usually mean that there is a 30mph speed limit unless there are signs showing another limit.
Remember that the difference in the stopping distance between 30 and 35 is 6.5 metres, the width of two zebra crossings.

The above limits apply to cars and motorcycles. Cars towing caravans or trailers, buses or coaches and goods vehicles have different limits on certain roads. It is the driver's responsibility to be aware of the speed restrictions for their vehicle.
